Founded in 1922, Jaguar is one of the oldest and most famous car manufacturers to come out of Britain.
Over its 100-year history, the firm has produced some of the most beautiful and elegant cars on the planet with the most famous being the legendary E-Type – which went on sale back in 1961.
Even in the new millennium, its cars were offering exciting propositions against its competition with the XJR supercharged sports saloon and even some concepts such as the XKR-R showcasing a brand which blended futuristic elements with proper tradition.
But, as emissions regulations become the main issue among lots of different car manufacturers, and strict deadlines to be met, Jaguar has taken some rather bold and controversial moves for its future plans for its product portfolio.
What can we expect from Jaguar in the future? What cars are coming? And what is going on with such a well-established brand? We’ve answered your questions to find out.
What cars does Jaguar offer?
Currently, Jaguar does not sell any new models here in the UK. Two weeks ago, the firm announced that its sales for its F-Pace SUV had come to an end, while earlier this year, production of the smaller E-Pace and electric I-Pace also were axed.
The models mentioned above are still being sold in other markets such as Germany and the United States. However, the firm’s plant in Austria that builds the E-Pace and I-Pace is ceasing production in December this year.
Meanwhile, the plant in Solihull, UK, which produces the F-Pace will be ceasing production at some point in 2025 with an end date yet to be confirmed.
What models are in the pipeline for the future?
As of next year, Jaguar will relaunch itself into an EV-only brand and the first model to kickstart this new era for the firm is a four-door GT car that will sit on a completely new platform - JEA – which stands for Jaguar Electric Architecture.
Alongside this new four-door GT car, there will be a further two models that will sit alongside each other in the range. It’s rumoured that the other two models will be an SUV and there have even been talks of a two-door GT car to rival cars like the Bentley Continental GT.
Where will these new models be built?
All three of these new models will be built at the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Solihull, UK – also the home of the new electric Range Rover.
The Midlands factory is the home of the Jaguar Land Rover manufacturing process and will be the heart of where a majority of the new models will be put together.
What investments is JLR investing?
Earlier this year, the firm announced that it was investing a total of £500 million pounds at its Halewood manufacturing plant in Merseyside to ensure that all staff get the training they need for mass production on EVs. It also includes updated equipment such as new production lines, machinery, training programs for employees and even an improved paint shop for the vehicles.
Is Jaguar’s future EV only?
The simple answer here, is yes. The brand has routinely stated that by 2025 it will become an all-electric luxury car maker and will solely sell vehicles with batteries rather than internal combustion engines.
The reason behind this bold strategy is to keep with the firm’s ambitions to become a net-zero business by the year 2039.
Additionally, the new platform that Jaguar refers to as its JEA, as mentioned above, will also be used in other electric vehicles such as the battery-powered Range Rover when it arrives in 2025.
Will Jaguar produce an electric sports car to compete with cars like the MG Cyberster and will it be an electric F-Type?
At this moment in time, it’s unclear whether there are any plans for that type of vehicle to be put into production. Currently, Jaguar is focusing on its first three cars for its rebranded model line-up. But, once the repositioning of these new models is underway, it could spark a trail of other models to follow suit. Jaguar plans to unveil its first model for its new era on December 2 – which will be a four-door GT.
